Reader's Theater is a theatrical performance technique in which actors, often without memorization and minimal staging, perform a script by reading and performing it aloud. This approach has several benefits, both for participants and audiences:

  • Improved Reading and Fluency: Reader's Theater can be a valuable tool for improving reading skills, particularly for students. It encourages participants to read and reread their scripts, which can enhance fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation.

  • Enhanced Expressiveness: Through Reader's Theater, participants can work on their expressive reading, voice modulation, and intonation. This helps individuals become more confident and effective communicators.

  • Inclusive Participation: Reader's Theater is inclusive and allows people of all ages and abilities to participate. It doesn't require elaborate sets, costumes, or memorization, making it accessible to a wide range of people.

  • Promotes Collaboration: Reader's Theater is a collaborative activity, encouraging teamwork among participants. It helps develop social skills, cooperation, and a sense of unity among the performers.

  • Develops Listening Skills: Audience members benefit from improved listening skills as they follow the story through the spoken word, without the aid of visual cues or actions. This is particularly valuable for students and can improve their overall comprehension.

  • Creativity and Interpretation: Actors in Reader's Theater have the opportunity to interpret characters and scenes, which can be a creative and intellectually stimulating exercise.

  • Fosters Empathy: By embodying various characters and situations, Reader's Theater can help individuals develop empathy and a deeper understanding of different perspectives and experiences.

  • Description: At Mathnasium, we're committed to offering students of all grade levels a comprehensive, customized learning journey in mathematics. The journey begins with an in-depth assessment, reflecting each student's previous grade level, to pinpoint the unique learning gaps they may have encountered in the prior academic year. This crucial step helps us understand each student's individual needs, setting the stage for the personalized educational experience that follows.

Central to our approach is the development of a customized learning plan for each student, drawn from our proprietary curriculum, which is expansive yet flexible. This curriculum not only aligns with national standards but is also adaptable to cater to each student's specific learning requirements and the educational goals they're striving for. Our skilled tutors are dedicated to guiding students through this customized plan with one-on-one support, offering detailed explanations, practical problem-solving, and in-depth exploration of concepts.

Throughout the semester, we maintain a dynamic learning process, continuously monitoring each student's progress and making necessary adjustments to their learning plans. This ensures that the instruction remains relevant, challenging, and effective, addressing each learner's evolving needs.

The semester concludes with a thorough post-assessment, which serves as a comparative tool to showcase the student's growth, achievements, and areas that may require continued focus. This reflective evaluation is instrumental in demonstrating how the customized learning plan, paired with our robust curriculum and dedicated instruction, has contributed to the student's improved mathematical proficiency. • Description: Core curriculum will consist of Mathnasium’s Numerical Fluency and Computational program:

Grades 1-2: Numerical Fluency (Customized based on Verbal Checkup) Without addition and subtraction fact fluency, students typically experience ongoing struggles in math. When kids count on their fingers or count by ones in some way to add or subtract, two things can typically go wrong... it takes them too long to provide the correct answer or they get the wrong answer. The objective of this program is to get them away from finger counting and memorization and teach them mental math strategies.

Grade 3: Multiplication and Division Fluency (Customized based on Verbal Checkup) This program is primarily focused on learning multiplication facts presented numerically but with a strong focus on using repeatable strategies without having to memorize

Grades 4-5: Computation curriculum (Customized based on Written Checkup) The focus of this program is teaching strategies for higher digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, add/sub/multiply/div of fractions (like an unlike denominator) and decimals using Mathnasium’s intuitive methods
